Wednesday 6th April
We had another lazy day at Puri Mas for our last day on Lombok: long late breakfast, swim in the pool, lazing on the day beds overlooking Mangsit Beach, and more time in the pool...
Ros and I did a sweaty yoga session in the Puri Mas yoga garden in the late afternoon just as the storm clouds were gathering. We were a group of beginners and our yoga teacher led a session better suited to grand masters - but luckily no long term damage seemed to be done.
We headed off to Cafe Alberto's on Senggigi Beach for our last Lombok meal. It was a lot quieter than I remembered but still a fun place to eat. We were driven back to Puri Mas afterwards in the Cafe Alberto's free transport - an open truck with no tail gate - quite a funny sight with all 8 of us giggling and wind swept driving into our 5 star hotel.
Thursday 7th April
We had an early start this morning, leaving Puri Mas at 7.45am to catch the 10.00am flight back to Denpasar. All went to plan and Eddy our driver was there to meet us. He had us here in Ubud and settled into Room 24 of Sri Bungalows in plenty of time for lunch at our fave Three Monkeys cafe......ah love Ubud.
Rob was delighted with his first Ubud serve of black rice pudding at Three Monkeys - Bubur Injan - a favourite Indonesian dessert of ours.
Throughout the rest of the afternoon at Sri Bungalows we met up with various dear friends and family who have made the trek to this busy town in the centre of Bali to help us celebrate some special birthdays (and a wedding anniversary) this year.
By 5.00pm as the sun was setting over the rice paddies James and Fiona hosted the most wonderful tropical drinks party as we shared stories of our adventures in getting here. Fiona and James had gone to a lot of trouble for our enjoyment: fresh mangosteens, pineapple, limes and mint from the Ubud markets, candles and incense from Seminyak and some potent but delicious cocktails from James's evolving repertoire.
There were 14 of us (amazing) for dinner at Cafe Wayan's tonight - the first of what will no doubt be many wonderful meals we will share together over the next few days.
