2009 Queanbeyan City Art Prize

The 2009 prize winner was announced last night at The Q Gallery. One of the judges, Steve Watson from Paintbox Fine Art Gallery, Braddon presented the award. His speech included references to a small number of specific works in the exhibition he particularly admired, including the "contemporary sculpture" by Maxine P. (no surprise to us).
But the big winner was..............Claire P.

for her dry point etching "Every Breath You Take", a stand out amongst the diverse works presented for this award, and a passionate expression of her experience of motherhood.

It was a big thrill to share the moment with Claire..thank you.

This was a high point in a week with some worries for us. Ella & J & J were holidaying in Coogee last week, with big plans to explore the delights of Sydney and Coogee Beach. Unfortunately Ella became very distressed with croup on Tuesday night and had to spend that night, the next day and the next night and morning in the Sydney Children's Hospital at Randwick (luckily a less than 5 minute drive from our apartment).
J & J were totally impressed with the care provided at the Children's Hospital and grateful for Ella's good recovery, but it made for quite a tiring and worrying holiday break for all of them.
We are all wishing for an end to this cold gloomy weather, an end to all the flu (swine and otherwise) viruses and respiratory infections and healthier times ahead for everyone.
