Geelong road trip

We've just got back from a four-night stay with my dear sister Ros and (our) Pete at their beautiful home in Geelong. They are wonderful hosts, always ready for good times and always making sure we wine and dine well (and often).

 

A sisterly portrait is a good excuse to try a few iPhone filters, don't you think?

Our meal at the brand new Two Noble in Newtown (Geelong) on Friday night was a standout - Asian fusion tasting plates with sensational flavours and great visual appeal. Asian style oyster kilpatrick and grilled prawn betel leaves were stunning starters, but every dish was a taste sensation (as was the accompanying local chardonnay). 

We love the beaches of the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula too. Thirteenth Beach near Barwon Heads was a new destination for us, and it looked absolutely beautiful yesterday in the warm sunny conditions.

The nearby Thirteenth Beach Golf Links looked vaguely familiar to us, being the spectacular backdrop to many scenes in our fave Seachange TV series (1998-2000), set in fictional Pearl Bay (but filmed in and around Barwon Heads back in the day).

A few kilometers on and we'd reached our lunch date destination at spectacular Ocean Grove Beach.

Lunch was at The Dunes - probably the most perfectly positioned dining spot on the Bellarine Coast, facing directly out to the beach and Bass Strait beyond.

Pete is going through some really tough cancer treatment at the moment and doesn't feel great a lot of the time, so we felt very lucky to have so much of his cheerful positive company this weekend and see up close (and totally admire) how Ros and Pete are both making the absolute best of this not-so-great time. We can't wait to see them again in Canberra at the end of the year when Pete's treatment is done, for more good times together, lots more sisterly and family love and plenty more good food and wine too.
