Marooned in Broome

There are worst places to be marooned in Covid recovery mode than the lovely old gracious and breezy McAlpine House in Broome.

Rob is recovering well after waiting out his 5 days of "staying clear of public places", being well looked after on his course of anti virals .

He was able to join me for some contact free walks around this older part of town after a few days and we even enjoyed a take away pizza one night in the grassy park near Town Beach.

I do love old Broome architecture but I'm not in the market to buy one right now!

Being careful to stay clear of people Rob was even able to come down to the Courthouse Markets with me at the weekend to engage with a bit of local culture.

On our second last night in Broome we pulled out all the stops and enjoyed an outdoor meal together at the Mangrove Hotel overlooking Roebuck Bay.

Yesterday afternoon we picked up our hire car and feeling free at last we headed out to do more extensive sight seeing around Broome. First stop was Gantheaume Point, at the most SW point of the Dampier Peninsula, and the most southerly point of Cable Beach. The intense red of the pindan rocks at Gantheaume Point contrasted with the turqouise blue of the Indian Ocean make this a spectacular site to see.

We thought we'd end off the day with a swim at Cable Beach - but that wasn't to be today!

But we had the chance to walk a fair way north along the beach and find the  famous Cable Beach camel riders. We've ridden camels in the Sahara Desert in Morocca before and didn't feel the need to repeat the experience here but we did note how well behaved (and small) these camels were compared to the ones we rode in Morocco.
...... and it was another opportunity to catch the wonderful sunset at Cable Beach too.

..... and a delicious meal at Zander's on the beachfront.
