Enlightened

We took an evening walk around the lake on Monday, aiming to catch a rising full moon and see this year's Canberra's Enlighten show projected on the buildings in the Parliamentary Triangle.

The huge rising moon was clearly visible just above the eastern horizon as the sun was setting - but my phone camera couldn't do it justice in this shot.

The National Library had projections of everyday family life in Canberra over the decades... quite interesting to watch in a low key way.
.. and the National Portrait Gallery's projections were as stunning as usual ....
But it was the National Gallery's show that really had us spellbound. it was a completely new work by the Mulka Project, based in NE Arnhem Land in the NT. The composite video animation work portrays the three major elements of Djarratawun - sunlight, lighting and fire. These elements were connected with songlines and atmospheric soundscapes, taking us directly into the rich culture of the Yolnu people of NE Arnhem Land. Just stunning ........

And my best shot of the rising moon that night, in the sky above Blundell's Cottage, as we walked back home.......
