Another day in Hackney

This Saturday was not as warm and sunny as last Saturday so the atmosphere at the Broadway Markets was a little less celebratory and the crowds in nearby London Fields were much more sedate this week - much more like normal says Davey.

The boys were ecstatic to start the day with roast hog on a ciabatta (better than kransky says Davey) and we all enjoy the amazing musical talent that contributes to making these markets so special.

There are performers on every corner - and to us they all sound amazingly good.

Cath had discovered an amazing little organic bakery during the week so we all made our way through London Fields to investigate.

It was the tiniest little place, just been discovered by the locals, tucked under the London Fields overground railway line on Mentmore Terrace.

It's manifesto is very much in keeping with the Hackney vibe (especially, "we also use seasonal and WILD foraged foods on occasion" - very Hugh Fearnley Wittingstall). Cath likes their vegan brownies and we find their sour dough bread absolutely wonderful. What a find, and only a 5 minute walk from our flat!

Davey has an afternoon of gardening planned and Cath is happy to relax for a while at our place so Rob and I are lucky enough to be able to take Eddie for a long afternoon walk in his pram. Hackney would have to be the best borough inLondon for Saturday afternoon walking. There is all the food, people and music of the Broadway Market.....

.......which Eddie takes in with watchful concentration. There's the pretty blossom trees and the avenues of magnificent plane trees just coming into leaf in London Fields; there's the picturesque canal threading its way from East to West through the borough, and there's all the variety in housing from rows of ugly estate flats through to elegant listed properties with private gardens that date from the eighteenth century.

Eddie slept through a lot of it as Hackney is nothing new for him now!

Cath, Eddie and Rob and I walked around to Cassland Road where Davey was doing "working bee" duty in the front garden of a Victorian era villa belonging to friends Stu and Cam. We arrived just in time for the end of working bee drinks and spent an hour or so in the company of these lovely Londoners and taking the opportunity to see through their beautiful villa (1853). It's still somewhat of a work in progress but with beautiful bones and enough done to see the magnificent potential of the place.

We walked back to Victoria Park village, stopping off at the Bottle Apostle for a Margaret River Cabernet Merlot to drink with our beautiful Su Sazzagoni (Corsican) pizzas (takeaway).

Despite all his little sleeps while walking Eddie gave another perfect baby performance tonight, being very sociable and charming during playtime and bathtime and then going to sleep on cue according to his 7.30-7.45pm routine.
